The two older boys wait all year for 7v7. It's a two-hand touch, passing league. They love it. Five minutes into the game, Tayden got a touchdown. It was an excellent catch and he struggled with his defender on the ground for a minute after the touchdown was called. His team ran off to the sidelines and a minute later I got a text from his coach, "Hey. I think Tayden might have broken his collarbone." Scott ran down there to check him out and our boy was fighting tears. Tayden is not one to cry, so we knew something was wrong. We took him to get x-rayed and sure enough, it was broken.
He was bummed, to say the least. His spring football season and spring training at the high school were over. However, what he was most disappointed about was early morning weights. He has been going to the high school to lift before school and was finally seeing results. He was finally lifting more and feeling stronger. That was a really big deal for this skinny kid.
However, in the midst of the sadness, we have seen so much kindness, goodness, and love. Kindness in the form of text messages and phone calls Goodness in offers of help, works in encouragement and sincere care. Love in visits from neighbors and good friends.
My heart is full. We live in the best community, surrounded by the best people. Each ready to help lighten the load and lift each other's burdens. It's been amazing to watch. Recover is 6 weeks. It's going to be rough, but he'll make it. And he'll be better for it.
