Rocket Man
Another post about Beckett. If you've been reading my blog, you know B would rather build than do anything using fine motor skills like coloring or writing. So when Beckett decided to color during church yesterday, it was a big deal. And when his picture came out looking like this....

Pride
I am so proud of this little man today.
He had his first part in primary opening exercises. He was assigned the scripture last Sunday and all week he refused to take any part of it. However, today, he marched right into primary with his brother...first time without me... And sat in the front in his designated spot. When it was his turn, he stood up there without hesitation and said the first article of faith without hesitation or mistake. Even though it wasn't the assigned scripture, nobody stopped him and he was so proud of himself. He was so brave and my heart literally burst with pride. I love this boy more than you could ever imagine.
Way to go Beckett boy!

You're not the Boss
A few weeks ago I shared a story about my sweet oldest son. Here's another one. But not so sweet.
Tayden was outside playing with his brothers. He was swinging a shovel when our neighbor came out and told him to stop before someone got hurt. His reply, "Well, you're not the boss of me."
Ah, stinker. He's six and thinks he knows everything. He was embarrassed as I spoke with him about respecting adults. He knew it was not the best choice and told me he said it under his breath so she wouldn't hear, but she did. And he wasn't quite sure how to handle it. Not all adults are good people, so I don't want him thinking he has to listen to all adults, but he needs to have respect for others.
He is learning about the world around him and feeling his way around. It's been an interesting challenge for me to help him navigate as he turns into a big kid. He might need a reminder now and then, but he's doing well. And I'm proud as ever.

Museum of Clean
Today we went to the Museum of Clean in Pocatello with Cheryl and Ashley. It was so fun! The founder, Don Asclett, gave us a fun little tour and gave the kids the opportunity to work with some of the displays. They had an old washboard, old vacuums, old bathtubs, basically anything you could think of that was used to clean. Tayden had a great time doing the demos, while Beckett was picky about the ones he wanted to do. He wasn't sure of Don, and true to form, he wasn't going to do anything he didn't want to. We had a great morning at the Musesm hanging out with family and getting some cousin time in with Aimslee.
Washing windows with Aunt Ashley. They did a little chimney sweep demonstration, which explains Caches black nose.

Cache and Aimslee. Best frenemies.
C and A drawing and cleaning on the glass table.
After the museum, grandma treated us to McDonalds for lunch. The kids played and played while I enjoyed some much needed grown up conversation.
Cache and his ice cream face.
It was a great day! I'm happy we live close enough that we can enjoy these kind of days with family.

Staycation
This past weekend we decided to take a little staycation to Idaho Falls. Scott was working Friday, I needed a little break and there were a few houses we wanted to look at. So after school we drove to IF and picked up Scott from work and got ready for a weekend of fun.
Scotts ended up working late so our weekend started a little late. But we had a fun evening of house hunting and enjoyed chic-fil-a for dinner. The boys loved the hotel and thought the breakfast was amazing. We spent Saturday looking at lots and drove up to see the rexburg temple.
I wish I could say I had an amazing weekend. I had been looking forward to it for a week and in my head had this blog post full of happy memories and pictures. I guess that was my first mistake.
Since moving from Idaho, I have let my parenting slip. I wanted to make the transition as easy as possible and have let them get away with more than I should. I felt like the whole weekend was disciplining little things that they have already mastered, but have forgotten. Honestly, I walked away discouraged a less rejuvenated than ever. My heart is a bucket full of emotion and the frustration is starting to take over. I'm kind of drowning, but am trying my best to refuse it.
Don't get me wrong, there were good parts to the weekend. Like Scott telling the boys nighttime stories as we shared a hotel room. Or trying to come up with a dog name for our future puppy. And watching Cache hid in our suitcase naked. It was fun. Just not the weekend I had hoped for.
