Duck Rescue

 It was one of our favorite nights of the year. The Annual Hansen Halloween Party! We love that night. I'm not a fan of Halloween, but I sure love the party. This year, a Boise game was on at the same time, so Tayden and his buddy ran home to check the score. They ended up staying for a little while to watch the game.

I stayed at Jodies and was chatting with my girlfriends. The next thing I know, Tayden bursts through the door saying, "We have a duck! We caught a duck!" He was so excited he was having a hard time spitting out the words. Finally, I got him calmed down enough to tell me the story. 

As he and Mason were watching the game, they noticed some commotion outside with Luna. They looked out there and noticed she was chasing a duck. It tried to take off a couple of times, but kept running into the fence. So Beckett and Tayden ran out there and cornered it. Beckett through a blanket on top of it and they rescued the poor thing. 

They brought it over to show everyone and we decided it was best to take it to the canal. So we loaded up the duck and lots of kids to set it free. It was the most exciting part of our night!

Baptism 3

Last weekend Cache was baptized. He had been waiting for his special day for weeks and couldn’t wait for it to come. It was a beautiful day surrounded by family. Due to COVID, we had an individual baptism. It was awesome just having our family there and taking part of the program. Kyle led the music, Grandma Karlson and Grandma Packard said the prayer, while Grandpa Packard and Uncle Justin (via video) spoke. And my personal favorite was having Tayden and Beckett as witnesses. It’s hard to believe we only have one left to baptize! 

Ocho Anos

We celebrated Caches eight birthday on Wednesday. He has been waiting to turn eight for the last two months. He can't wait to get baptized and he can't wait to get his first .22 gun from Grandpa Mennear. 

Cache has never had a friend party. Football and basketball for three boys doesn't leave alot of spare time for parties, but I was determined to do something for him this year. No matter how small. Seeing as we didn't have school the Friday before his birthday, I quickly planned a surprise lunch for him. The knock on the door totally caught him off guard and he was so gracious with his thank yous as he saw his friends with gifts and balloons. I took them all to get a happy meals then we ate and played at the park and had a silly string fight. It was so low key, but so fun and perfect for Cache. He loved it. 

Unfortunately, Scotts uncle, Kim Thomas, passed away earlier in the week and his funeral was on Caches birthday. He was a sport about it and never complained once. In fact, he enjoyed all the birthday wishes from people in attendance. Because we would be gone most the day, we did gifts in the morning. Then after the funeral my parents came over to take Cache shopping and stayed for cake. Again, so low key and easy. But it was so great. 

Cache is everything good. He is smart and funny. Sweet and sour. Talkative and more talkative. He has two modes...fast and faster. He is always moving, always thinking. He likes to tell stories and loves all things creepy (which works out for an October birthday cake). Cache is my mini. Not only does he look like me, but he eats like me and tries new foods, reads like me and is always my gardening buddy. We share a lot of the same interests and I can always count on him to help me when I need it.

After Cache was born sick, I was constantly worried about him. But eight years later he is thriving. I couldn't be more grateful to be his mom. Happy Birthday, Cachee Boy. I love you as deep as your dimples!

 

The Hammer

Taydens football team is in a funk this year. They’re going through some growing pains and haven’t been winning much. While I’m not a fan of losing, I'm not opposed to it either. I think there are valuable lessons to losing. It helps you be a gracious winner, it promotes humility and helps your work ethic among other things. Although the seasons been hard for the team, Tayden has had a great year! He has played incredible. He’s played 95% of every game, only coming out if he’s asking for a water break. His defensive game has been strong with some game saving tackles. He is also on offense this year. His blocking has been really good and he loves running the ball. He even got his first touch this year. It was incredible to watch. He is blossoming into a strong player and I love that his coaches are noticing too. He was awarded the tackling hammer after one of the best games I’ve watched him play. He’s a force on and off the field and I couldn’t
